MAJOR TOPICS

Knowledge representation

Either medical knowledge or traffic rules or food product standards, there is knowledge to be represented and reason upon. We apply logics like First Order Logic, Fuzzy Logic, Subjective Logic, Description Logics, Temporal Logics, together expert systems, Default Logic, argumentation theory.

Machine learning

Extracting knowledge from data is aimed for natural language, traffic data, patients treatments. Classical machine learning, together with deep learning are employed in order to extract patterns.

Handling Uncertainty

Identification of the driver's intention or of the lane exact position is possible with probabilistic methods as Bayesian Networks, Gaussian Mixed Models.

Natural Language Processing

Machine comprehension, grammars, semantic roles, natural logic.

Explainable AI

Trust, Ethical AI, Semantic Web, Norms, Decision making, Formal argumentation

Multi-agent cooperation

Cognitive models, Socio-technical systems, Collective intelligence, Communication languages and protocols, Commitments, Interleaving Cooperation with Competition

COLABORATIONS

In work

Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Pinar Ozturk.
We had the research project Increasing understanding on climate change through public discourse analyse and stakeholders modelling ArgClime We focus here on developing a technical instrumentation for making sense of a set of online arguments and aggregating them into usable results for policy making and climate science communication. Our objectives are to

  • aggregate arguments posted for a certain debate topic,
  • consolidate opinions posted under several but related topics either in the same or different debate site, and
  • identify possible linguistic characteristics of the argumentative texts. Although we focused here on the climate change, the method can be applied to any domain.

We co-organised the 6th International Conference, MIKE 2018, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, December 20–22, 2018 MIKE2018 conference at Technical University of Cluj-Napoca. MIKE 2018 received 93 submissions from 29 countries. The international program committee from 27 countries recommended 33 of these submissions for acceptance (acceptance rate 35.48%). The proceedings have been published by Springer in Lecture Notes of Artificial Intelligence
